Remember when I did an Ironman?

Me too! It was and continues to be the best day of my entire life. I will never forget it as long as I live. There is rarely a day that goes by that I don't think about it. It gave me a high that lasted for months. All I can say is that if you're even considering it - Just Do It! There will always be a reason not to and you'll always think you're not ready but once again I say, it's not logical but nothing will make you feel more accomplished and proud of yourself then that day! It's an amazing feeling that few get to experience but everyone should.

Why am I all of sudden writing on this blog again after a year and half and no race report? This past weekend I had the pleasure of watching IM AZ because I was in Phoenix for work and I was reminded why I love the sport so much and just how life changing Ironman was for me. I started thinking about what I've done over the past year and how my workouts have been a little lax and I came across my blog which I had pretty much forgot about. Reading about the year leading up to IM CDA renewed my love for endurance and also made me realize that writing down my workouts holds me a lot more accountable. So I think I'll start that back up. But for anyone who comes across this blog, I did complete Ironman. Since it was so long ago I won't write a full report but here are the highlights:

Overall Time: 15 hours 35 min
Swim: 1:29:40
T1: 10:07
Bike: 7:31:51 (14.9 mph pace)
T2: 11:50
Run: 6:11:43 (14:12 miles)

  • Hearing Mike Reilly say "Kara Thallon You Are An Ironman" was the best moment of my life

  • The swim, bike and first 10K of the run went way better then I thought then it fell apart

  • I was throwing up, I was tired beyond belief and yet there was not one moment of that race that I didn't love

  • I never questioned if I was going to finish

  • Having a cheering squad is important

  • It's everything you think it will be and more!

  • I would do it again in a heartbeat but only with good training partners and preferably I'll talk the husband into it one day!
